A large wheel-thrown and decorated 'harvest jug.'
Material: Terracotta, decorated with white slip, sgraffito decoration with transparent honey glaze.
Size: 8.7" x 9"
These giant globe-shaped slipware pitchers originated in the 18th century. They were made to hold cider or ale for farmhouse tables to celebrate the harvest, a wedding, or even the launch of a ship. The jugs were highly decorated with simple or stylized motifs and subjects.
Based in her studio in Herefordshire, Christina's contemporary harvest jugs are based on patterns, themes, and motifs found in her rural daily life.
